Ideas for a Hygge Thanksgiving

thankful in letter cut outs on table. hygge thanksgiving ideas.

We might not be congregating with lots of family members this year, especially in New England where it’s in the 30’s and 40’s right now, but there are still things we can do to be cozy and enjoy a hygge thanksgiving at home this year, in spite of the pandemic.

Hygge Thanksgiving Inspirations for Your Family:

  • Find lots of cozy, fuzzy, fury blankets and cuddle up on the couch with coffee, tea, and hot cocoa with Thanksgiving or Christmas movies on.
  • Find local restaurants that might be offering Thanksgiving cookie decorating kits to supplement their offerings this year (If you’re near Boston, Tempo Bistro is offering this)
  • Bake pumpkin and cranberry bread with toddlers
  • Make turkey crafts. Here are some fun thanksgiving turkey craft ideas.
  • Make Pilgrim crafts
  • Visit Plimouth Plantation (if you live close to Boston https://www.plimoth.org/)
  • Read kid’s Thanksgiving stories from the Library together (some favorites of ours are Corduroy and Curious George)
  • Take an outing to an outdoor farm stand and pick-out gourds for the table
  • Watch the pre-filmed Macy’s Day Parade
  • Light candles, cuddle up with cozy blankets and play family board games/kids games
  • Let kiddos help with the meal trimmings (kids can stir mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, and mix the stuffing)
  • Let kiddos help decorate, and set the table
  • Make cut-out leaf garlands for the dining room
  • Go for a family walk in the woods
  • Decorate a cardboard box like the Mayflower
  • Make a list of all the things you’re thankful for this year

Just because we can’t be with our usual guests this year, doesn’t mean we can’t still dress-up and celebrate. Thanksgiving traditions aren’t cancelled at our house! Even better, we’re having a Hygge Thanksgiving!
