Hygge Outdoor Princess Birthday Party Ideas
Thanks to the pandemic, one of the rare positive things that has come out of the last two years is how awesome it is to be outside and enjoy more events, parties, and celebrations. Actually, I’ve come to realize, I’d rather host outside any day!
Here’s why:
- kids are far more engaged outside with everything you’re doing, and also able to self-engage with nature, and if they need a break from an activity there are other things to focus on and engage with
- fresh air is second to none in almost any outdoor space
- clean-up is easier, and your house isn’t destroyed, and you don’t have to meticulously house clean beforehand
- if liquids, toys, projects, crafts etc. make a mess or spill—well oh well—it’s outside so who cares!
I hosted my oldest daughter, Karoline’s birthday party outside in our backyard in early October. I sat on pins and needles doing a dance for mother nature the week before, but luckily it worked! However, I included a provision for inclement weather in the evite, which said if weather is bad then we’ll reschedule.
The theme of this party was Disney Princess, and I ordered all of our supplies from Amazon and Party City. I found glitter covered mason jars, and made homemade flower bouquets from Trader Joe’s flower selection (which I love!). I took my girls along to help pick-out the flowers. I spray painted white mini pumpkins “Cinderella blue” and added stickable crystal rhinestones for decorations.
I set-up an outdoor princess tent for $35 from Amazon, and painted four large sponge pumpkins from Michael’s to match the other Cinderella blue decorations. I hung white, light pink, and dark pink round paper lanterns with ribbon across the back yard from our patio umbrella post.
We had a candy filled piñata from Party City, a princess visit from Rapunzel from Pretty As a Princess, and individual princess mirrors for the guests to make from Amazon, and mini Cinderella pumpkins to decorate with gem stones. We served heart shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, juice boxes, and goldfish pouches, along with individual chocolate and vanilla princess cupcakes from Vienna Bakery. Lunch was served on individual plates to be as safe as possible, hand sanitizer was on every table, and guests were asked to wear masks, as this age group isn’t vaccinated yet, and many of our guests are in school or daycare.
The party was a success, the kiddos had fun, and the weather held. Let’s hope pandemic or not we can throw another outdoor birthday party for #5 next year too! Here’s to lots of hygge outdoor party fun!
